CANCER WARRIORS’ CARE PROGRAMME
Second Wheelchair donation
Jitendra is a native of Kurlia, West Bengal. He is a farmer by profession and a part time photographer and videographer for weddings. His youngest son was diagnosed with blood cancer. They sought treatment in Vellore and also in Kolkata Cancer Center and Research Institute. His son completed his chemo cycles and was declared cancer free when another major tragedy struck. Jitendra developed an acute pain in his right knee, His Doctors suggested him to take an MRI CT scan and to his utter shock and dismay he was diagnosed with a tumour in the right knee. This was heartbreaking as within 6 months two people in the family were diagnosed with cancer. This time around he wanted to receive treatment in the best institute and upon research he came to know about the specialisation of Tata Memorial Hospital at Parel in Mumbai.
At Mumbai, after examination the doctors declared that the tumour was not spreading in his right knee but his leg would be amputated and a knee replacement would be made. Before the surgery he had to undergo multiple chemo cycles. Due to the excruciating pain it was difficult for him to walk and he used crutches to move about. At this juncture, CHF donated a wheelchair to him. This made it much easier for him to move by himself. Their family hardly expected anyone to exhibit such a kind gesture. They were truly moved and exceedingly grateful for the wheelchair.
