Housing Project

From Despair to Hope

Catherine Hope Foundation's Housing Initiatives in Theni District.

Lakshmi is a resident of Genguvarpatti, a village in the serene foothills of Kodaikanal. After getting married, she welcomed a baby girl into her life, a moment that should have been filled with joy. Tragically, within just a few years, her world shattered when her husband deserted her, leaving her to navigate life alone. Heartbreakingly, her little girl passed away at just two years old. This loss plunged Lakshmi into a deep shock, leading to a stroke that affected her arm and leg on one side.

Struggling to care for herself, Lakshmi reached out to her relatives for support, but they turned their backs on her. Alone and desperate, she found herself living on the streets, homeless for years. Each night, she sought refuge on the verandah of a kind stranger's house, yearning for a sense of safety and warmth.

In response to her dire situation, the Catherine Hope Foundation made her the focus of our first project. We built her a small cement house with an attached toilet, giving her not just shelter but a place she could finally call home. This haven offered her the comfort and security she so desperately needed, allowing her to rebuild her life with a sense of dignity.
